WHY is UAV LIDAR used in Mining?

Mining businesses typically use ground surveying and photogrammetry to understand mines. The weather conditions and topography that surround a mine can be very dangerous and make it very difficult to collect accurate data. Often with the lack of roads and rough terrain, conventional methods are impractical.

Light Detection and Ranging technology (LiDAR) is helping mining companies reduce their risk and optimize data with aerial surveying.

HOW does it work?

Using LiDAR on an Unmanned Air Vehicle (aka, drone), allows mining companies to use less people and create safer work enviroments. By attaching the equipment to a drone, they are able to collect geospatial information of the natural surface, infrastructure, and production volumes. The drone simply carriers the sensor over the plot of land, flies in calculated paths, and provides precise information.

Why is it important to have the correct insurance for my equipment?

Today, there are many options for equipment that stays on the ground. As soon as your equipment leaves the ground and is in the air or on the water, the traditional insurance policy may be useless. It’s vital that your policy has an aviation endorsement that protects the equipment in the event that it is damaged during a flight.

It’s also important that you work with an agent that understands your business and who has access to the right insurance carriers.
